A bronze medal measuring 59 mm in diameter, weighing 69 g, the obverse presents a figure rising out of a body of water, above the inscription WATERSNOOD 1953, the reverse centre features a dove in flight carrying an olive leaf, a reference to Genesis, inscribed GEN. 8: 11, circumscribed with NIL DESPERANDUM (NEVER DESPAIR), maker marked W between the doves tail feathers and wing, with white hard paper case, the exterior stamped
