Twisted stems are as exciting in winter as its purple-red leaves are in summer

and flaming orange color in fall

Leaves are darkest purple-black lustrous ovals that hang downward in cascades

so we have something to look forward to as the sun starts setting at 4:30 PM

This native does amazingly well in both aspects of sun and high shade. It is always a delight to behold while walking through our woods outside the nursery deer fence with the greyhounds. During times of summer drought stress, usually in hot full sun with minimal summer water, ocean spray can drop its leaves or start its fall
