This is a great example of a Spanish Infantry "Briquet" sword, based on the French Napoleonic era design. It's a relatively simple sword, with a blade set into a cast brass hilt with a guard. After the Napoleonic wars Spain introduced the Model 1818, which had a straight blade. This was replaced in 1840 with the curved model that we have here.
