In the Battle of the Somme in 1916 of the 775 men of the Regiment that "went over the top" 463 were either killed in action or wounded and only one officer remained unhurt

These daggers were first issued when the NSKK was part of the SA, and both used identical daggers. After the NSKK split off, they kept the dagger design, but had the scabbard painted black, like the SS.
