This is a very nice example of the principal cavalry saber used in the U. S. Civil War of 1860 1865. It has all brass mounts with wood with leather wrapped sword grip and intact bound brass wire wrap. The curved 35" blade's ricasso is marked on the on one side with the maker information, which is partly faded. EMERSON & SILVER TRENTON One the other side it is marked U. S. DFM 1864 DFM is the marking for Union
