the obverse medallion features a standing lion with star in the distances surrounded by a red enamelled ring inscribed REPUBLIQUE DU SENEGAL UN PEUPLE UN BUT UNE FOI (Republic of Senegal One People One Goal One Faith)
The medal was established in 1913 and was awarded to both civilian and military personnel

A beautiful star, in silver gilt, a six armed white enamelled cross with ball finials, affixed to a solid multi rayed gilded plate with three pink enamelled roses on green enamelled laurels in each quadrant creating a wreath, the obverse medallion in Gold presents the hand chiselled medallion of Pedro I, surrounded by a blue enamelled ring with the inscription AMOR E FIDELIDADE
