The exterior is cotton handwoven on a backstrap loom. Designed by Luisa Villavicencio of Guatemala, the exterior fabric is made from cotton harvested from her family farm. The beige colors are the natural color of the cotton varieties grown on the Villavicencio farm, mixed with black to create a subtle stripe on the body of the bag and a diamond pattern at the top.
