Freeman ASN 36424723 enlisted on 1 February 1943. According to records from the National Archives he was an infantryman and was wounded in line of duty sometime in December 1944 by artillery shrapnel to the head. He was discharged from the ospital in February 1945. At some point during his service he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for gallantry in action which was engraved with his name on the reverse
