The top side of the sweatband is ink stamped Made in Germany: this stamp was done in the 1980s when the dealer that imported them was forced to mark country of origin due to US importation regulations

His “rate” or job was an Anti-Aircraft Gun Crewman and the patch indicating so is on the left shoulder beneath the chevrons

and the red primer layer is visible where it has been scratched
