The steel itself was rolled by the American Sheet and Tin Plate Company and stamped "ZB59" ("ZB" indicating the heat number and "59" the shipping number) on the underside of the helmet at the front

Multi piece construction, in silver with red, white and green enamels, Austrian hallmarked with a Diana's head (Dianakopf) (which was used between 1872 and 1922), the head flanked by a "2" on the left and an "A" (Vienna) on the right, in addition to being maker marked "G. A. S." (G. A. Scheid) on the lower prong, measuring 47 mm (w) x 56. 8 mm (h), the reverse with a dark patina, date engraved "1864"
