When the team's plane crashed in Munich, tragedy struck as eight key members of the squad were killed. Roger Byrne, Geoff Bent, Eddie Colman, Mark Jones, David Pegg, Tommy Taylor and Liam Whelan all died in the wreckage, while one of United's top players, Duncan Edwards, died of his injuries two weeks later.
