Koelewijn recorded the song with his backing band on November 13, 1959, in what would later became the Bovema Studio in Heemstede (North Holland); he was one of the first artists who recorded there. At the time, Koelewijn was still working in the fish shop of his parents and was also on the market in Eindhoven selling the fish. There he heard music
