This semisynthetic antibiotic has also been shown to work against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), to activate nuclear pregnane x receptor (PXR), and to promote CYP2C mediated metabolism. Rifampicin functions by binding the subunit of RNA polymerase, inhibiting RNA synthesis.
